Method unveils their new Powergreen Technology bottles.

by admin - April 28th, 2011

What is it you ask? As they claim it’s “The Only Custom Designed 100% Post Consumer Recycled Plastic Bottles in Mass Market; New All-Purpose Cleaners, Bathroom Cleaner, Glass & Surface Spray — Featuring New powergreenTMTechnology”

Essentially the “Powergreen technology” simply means they are using 100% Post Consumer Recycled plastic bottles and the bottles are specifically designed for the area of the house they are made to clean. While on the surface this doesn’t seem much, it is step forward for other companies to follow. While consumer recycling is always increasing, an important aspect of the cycle is businesses must be using the recycled materials. 100% PCR plastic bottles is a step other companies should follow. We can only hope that we will be seeing Starbucks unveiling 100% PCR cups soon.

Amazon has discounted cleaning products since Earth day 2011.

by admin - April 26th, 2011

I have noticed that a lot of green cleaning products have been listed as part of their subscribe and save marketing efforts. There are a few brand name products that are of interest particularly because they are hard to find at a discounted price. There are plenty of Method and Mrs. Meyers products, as well as a few Seventh Generation, Earth Friendly, and Biokleen products. I have loaded up on some hand soaps, all-purpose cleaners, and window cleaners. Enough to last me a year or two. Let us know if you see other products that are currently on sale. This would be of great interest to other readers.

E-Readers vs Old Fashioned books

by admin - April 20th, 2011

This is a very provocative article by the Sierra Club comparing the eco-friendliness of E-readers vs regular print books. Essentially it comes down to how many books you read per annum. If you read more than 23 books annually then the E-reader is more carbon efficient, but otherwise purchasing or borrowing from the library is more eco-friendly. I agree with this article when you are simply comparing an E-reader to traditional books, but when you consider tablets and other E-readers that allows multiple uses. I don’t think this article also considered that you are also able to read a lot of pdf documents, newspapers, magazines, etc which greatly increases the eco-friendliness of E-readers.

Green Festival Chicago

by admin - April 18th, 2011

With the Green Festival San Francisco behind us we are looking forward to the next festival to be held in the windy-city. There are some great speakers billed for this event. I’m looking forward to hearing Dr. Devra Davis speak. She is an intellect in the environmental health hazards realm. I’ll also be looking forward to the local exhibitors that are listed to be attending.
